Key takeaways

  • A full-day private tour with a car had a median listed price of $438 per group in our snapshot; by public transport, $265.
  • Half-day tours (3–5 hours) had a median of $279, close to some full-day public-transport tours.
  • Prices are per tour, not per person, so the cost per head falls fast as your group grows.
  • Admission, boats, tuk-tuks and meals were usually extra on the listing we checked. Budget for them separately.

Most advice about guide prices in Bangkok comes from forum threads that are years old. This page uses current listed prices instead: on October 31, 2026, we recorded the first page of private Bangkok tours on ToursByLocals, a marketplace of private guides — 85 tours in all.[1]

How much does a private guide in Bangkok cost?

Listed prices per private tour, US dollars
Tour typeToursMiddle halfMedianRange
Full day (6–11 h), private car41$334–$490$438$308–$605
Full day, public transport or walking15$253–$308$265$143–$440
Half day (3–5 h), any transport16$249–$297$279$127–$493
Two or three days, private car13$669–$1,003$937$669–$1,003

“Middle half” is the range between the 25th and 75th percentiles: half of the listed tours fall inside it.

The gap between car and public-transport tours is the clearest pattern. A car and driver adds about $173 to the median full day in this sample. Whether that is worth it depends on your group, the heat, and how far apart your stops are.

What is included, and what costs extra?

The platform states that its prices are per tour, not per person. On the full-day listing we opened, the guide listed these as not included: admission fees, boat rides, local tuk-tuk rides, meals and drinks.[1] Other tours may differ, so read each listing’s inclusions.

Entrance fees add up quickly for foreign visitors. The Grand Palace alone costs 500 baht per person, which covers Wat Phra Kaew (the Temple of the Emerald Buddha) and the Queen Sirikit Museum of Textiles.[2] For a family of four that is 2,000 baht at the gate before anyone has eaten lunch.

How does party size change the cost per person?

Because you pay per tour, the per-person cost drops with each extra traveler. Using the median full day with a car ($438):

Median full-day car tour divided by party size
Party sizeGuide and car, per person
1 traveler$438
2 travelers$219
3 travelers$146
4 travelers$110
6 travelers$73

This is simple division of a listed price, not a quote. Check each listing’s maximum group size and whether the price changes for bigger groups. The cost planner adds entrance fees, boats, meals and a tip for your exact group.

How reliable are these numbers?

Treat them as a reasonable benchmark, not a market average:

We plan to refresh this snapshot every quarter and more often during the November–January high season, when searches for Bangkok tours peak.

What does this mean for my budget?

As a rough rule from this data: plan on roughly $253–$308 for a full guided day on public transport, or $334–$490 with a car, per group, then add entrance fees, food and transport extras. That is our inference from the middle half of the sample, not a price any guide has promised.

If a quote is far below this range, ask what is excluded and whether the guide is licensed. Our guide to hiring a licensed guide covers what to check.
